Gingerbread Cutouts

Ingredients:

1 cup butter, softened

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup dark brown corn syrup

1 tsp each: cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger

2 eggs, beaten

1 tsp white vinegar

1 tsp baking soda

5 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions:

In a large saucepan, combine butter, sugar, corn syrup, and spices. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.

Remove from heat, pour into a large mixing bowl, and cool to lukewarm.

Meanwhile, mix flour and baking soda together; set aside.

Stir eggs and vinegar into the cooled sugar mixture, then add the flour and baking soda mixture.

Cover and refrigerate for several hours or overnight.

Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly flour a surface and roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness.

Cut out shapes and place them 2 inches apart on a baking sheet.

Bake for 8–10 minutes or until lightly browned.

Cool completely on a wire rack before decorating.
