Gingerbread Cutouts
Ingredients:
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup dark brown corn syrup
- 1 tsp each: cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
Instructions:
- In a large saucepan, combine butter, sugar, corn syrup, and spices. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat, pour into a large mixing bowl, and cool to lukewarm.
- Meanwhile, mix flour and baking soda together; set aside.
- Stir eggs and vinegar into the cooled sugar mixture, then add the flour and baking soda mixture.
- Cover and refrigerate for several hours or overnight.
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly flour a surface and roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness.
- Cut out shapes and place them 2 inches apart on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 8–10 minutes or until lightly browned.
- Cool completely on a wire rack before decorating.
